Say, “KWA - RAY”
Kvarøy (say “Kwa-ray”) is a postcard pretty island located on the Norwegian Inner Passage on the Arctic Circle. You can reach it by flying into Oslo…then eight hours by train, taxi, and two boats.
Our close-knit island community shares a worker’s lifestyle and a grand vision: to evolve open water salmon farming into a sustainable practice that protects the environment and promotes animal welfare while providing a healthy source of protein for a growing world.
“The water temperature here is 4 – 15ºC; the best is 8 – 12ºC. The coastline is protected; the fjords are 120 meters deep. There’s lots of current with open fjords at both ends, keeping the waters clear and clean, while exercising the salmon. It really is perfect.”
“It takes a special mindset, to be mentally prepared to live on an island. Life is harder; it takes more planning. But it’s a beautiful, natural place, and I’m here with an amazing, fine group of people who all have the same goal. The work is so rewarding; we’re doing something right.”
